Welcome to You and Kanan's School Idol Café!

Kanan and You's Chinese dishes

When you enter, the 2 idols will welcome you with a smile and present to you the menu, full of Chinese/Japanese delicacies!

Most of these items would be called “Japanese cuisine” anywhere in the world but in Japan, where they’re considered Chinese cuisine.

That’s because these are actually Chinese dishes with a pinch of salt from Japan!

  • The name “ramen” (ラメン) is simply the way you pronounce “la mian” (拉麵) in Japanese
  • Chahan (チャーハン) = “chǎofàn” (炒飯)
  • Gyozas (ギョーザ) = “giǎoze” (餃子)

It was a lot of fun making these with my friends here in Singapore, who don’t know anything about Love Live! but are always down to cook (and mostly, eat) delicious food!

All the dishes

We bought the ingredients the day before. We also made the ramen eggs the day before to let them marinate overnight.

Ingredients

I drew the details on the bowl because it was easier (and cheaper) than finding a bowl exactly like the one Kanan is holding.

We made the dough for the baos ourselves. It was our first time making them from scratch!

My friend loves working with yeast so she's the one who kneaded the dough. After letting it rest for a while, I shaped them into cute(-ish?) Uchicchis. You can see the walruses teeth here, but after steaming them, they disappeared!

I used a food safe marker to make the eyes.

Besides the pineapple tart (which is actually just a cookie with a cherry on top), the gyozas and the peach-shaped baos (both frozen), we made everything ourselves!

You probably noticed I didn't make chashu ramen and made kitsune udon instead - that's because I'm vegetarian and it's hard to make a chashu-based broth with vegetarian ingredients. Kitsune udon is also my favorite so... :D

I couldn't find vegetarian wieners so I let my friends make and eat them. I made the chahan though, and I think it's the best I've ever made! Turns out having a good quality wok helps, and my friend has a very good one. 10/10 will borrow again.

With nutella, bootleg walrus

The photos that look good were taken by my friend who loves photography, whose arm appears behind my bootleg walrus bao. Here's the rest of us:
