I've been wanting to talk about Spells Garden subunits for a while for a while now and I finally have the energy and edits to do it so... This is going to be a long post so I'm sorry in advance for this.
While thinking about ideas for sububits I noticed that LL subunit singles, most of the time, have only 2 songs (with some exceptions). That catched my attention andthat's how the idea came to my mind; "why not trying making the subunits have some kind of duality represent by the 2 songs for the singles?". Is not the most original thing ever but I liked the concept, so here are the units:
- This is the pure subunit formed by Gina, Hiiragi and Honoka, and the concept behind them is "Magical Girl Investigation Program". The songs would represent both sides of the investigation: The side of 3 girls who try to unveil the secrets behind a group of girls who once saved the world, and the side of 3 girls who fight to protect the world they love from evil with their magic. I thought that the songs would give hints about the lore of both groups's stories and how they are both connected at the end. I think the song of the Investigation Girls would sound like Negai no Manazashi from 22/7 and the song of the Magical Girls could be similar to Egao no Tensai .
- The cool subunit is formed by Nadia, Misa and Miu revolves around the theme "Princesses by daylight, Phantom Thieves by moonlight". Their songs would tell the stories about 3 princesses from different kingdoms confronted by a war, these 3 princesses ally to stop the war in the shadows to protect the ones they love. Both songs would represent the two sides of the princesses, with one song representing the girls keeping their elegant façade and with the other song showing the plans they carry out when no one is looking. The song of the elegant and princess-like side could sound like something similar to Kinjirareta Asobi from Ali Project (even if my head just keeps thinking in Shadow gate to love-) and the "Phantom Thief" side would have a more rock sound to it like Shock out, Dance!! from LizNoir .
- And at last but not least, the smile subunit's members are Nami, Yukari and Cara, and the concept behind this group is "Time travelling young damsels". The songs from this subunit would represent the story of 3 sisters that live in the countryside but that aren't allowed to leave their house because of their strict parents, who work as musicians. This girls enjoy the calm live of their household but what their parents don't know is that, when the sun is at its peak in the sky, a door that conects the past and the future opens and this girls travel to the future, where they can finally "live" and work as musicians even if it's just until the sunset. I imagine that song that would represent the "past side" where they usually live could sound like Destin Historie by Lisa Yoshiki and the song of the "future side" would sound like something similar to Rain on me by Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande.
I know, this is weird af and the mixes of styles can be a bit weird but I tried- Also, I will leave in the comments some pictures to show more or less the interactions between the girls in the subunits in terms of how their friendship works in the group. Sorry if this was too long and weird.
